During the month of May my wife Claire and I, along with some close
friends are organising and taking part in a number of events in memory
of our son Dara.
Dara was born in February 2012 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a
complex heart condition that requires specialist surgery which is not
carried out in Ireland, therefore he had to go to Birmingham.
Unfortunately Dara passed away suddenly in June before he was ready
for his second operation.
The aim of the 'Doing it for Dara' charity work is to try to raise as
much money as we can for the 4 places that looked after him and us so
well at this time last year.
These places are;
South West Acute Hospital - Neonatal Unit (where Dara was born)
Children’s Heartbeat Trust – Belfast – (which supports Clarke Clinic
in the Royal Children’s Hospital)
Birmingham Children’s Hospital PICU – (where Dara spent 10 weeks and
where many children from Northern Ireland are sent each month)
Ronald McDonald House, Birmingham – (which provided accommodation for
Claire and I beside the children’s hospital – brilliant charity – google it)

"Children’s Heartbeat Trust is a local Northern Irish charity that provides emotional and practical support to parents
and families affected by heart disease in children.
Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect in children born in Northern Ireland with on
average 250 children per year born with one or more conditions.
Roughly one third of these children with require open heart surgery or other interventional procedures.
We work to ensure that each child and family receives the support and information that they need to cope with this illness.
The charity manages some fifteen family support groups, providing continuous advice and support for families with sick
children as well as parents of those whohave just been recently diagnosed.
Working closely with Clark Clinic at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children (RBHSC) the charity funds top
quality medical equipment, initiatives and research ensuring that children with heart disease in Northern Ireland receive the
best care and treatment possible.
A central aim of the charity is to provide family support.
The local support groups are key to this, however the charity also organises family outings throughout the year to
give families throughout Northern Ireland the opportunity to meet each other in a social and relaxed environment.
We believe that the right information and support can help families through what is a very traumatic experience.

The Tshirts they printed on were our most popular range of Fruit Of The Loom Tshirts which come in a wide variety of colours.
Think about what you could do with printed Tshirts in order to raise awareness for your charity! :)
